SECURITY

What is security? Is it found in splendid positions or worldly possessions? No, past experience has proved that merely material economic security may be here today and gone tomorrow. Things material are not eternal; so it is evident that security is never established through material means or in material sense.

David had the right idea of security and expressed it for us in the ninety-first Psalm, where he sang, "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Indeed, "the shadow of the Almighty" is a secure dwelling place. David said that dwelling in "the secret place of the most High" provides security. Surely this secret place is not a material locality. When our thoughts are of God, we say that we think spiritually; therefore "the secret place" must be spiritual consciousness.

Mary Baker Eddy speaks of the source of security in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" when she says (p. 60), "Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind, and happiness would be more readily attained and would be more secure in our keeping, if sought in Soul." From this statement it is clear that lasting happiness is established in Soul.
