I am grateful for Christian Science...
I am grateful for Christian Science and for the joyous experiencewhich has been mine through its study. Many years ago this religion was presented to me, but I strayed far afield into a very worldly and unhappy way of life. A career of medical reporting loomed on my horizon, and I diligently sought to follow it. In January, 1949, I severely injured my foot. Having a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I read from it at some length. Then I was led to examine my ways, and I resolved to change them and to become a Christian Scientist. As I made this resolution all pain completely disappeared, and I was healed.
Following this healing I began to read our textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health, and to attend church services. Soon I became acquainted with a consecrated practitioner, whose efficacious work has been a great inspiration to me along the way. Since that time many blessings have been mine, including several physical healings. I was freed from bondage to tobacco, alcohol, drugs, medicine, and coffee. False traits of character are being effaced by the desire to be Christlike. I have found a harmonious place in which to live, and satisfying employment. All my desire for medical reporting was taken away, and the work itself was replaced by better activity.
All in all, I have been learning the meaning of true selfhood, as revealed to Mrs. Eddy by our loving Father-Mother God and to us through Science and Health. For this increased understanding I am exceedingly grateful. Much gratitude is due for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for the privilege of class instruction, I am particularly grateful that my experience in Christian Science has been so constantly filled with progressive unfoldment of good that there has been little room for suffering sense. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 296), "Either here or hereafter, suffering or Science must destroy all illusions regarding life and mind, and regenerate material sense and self." —(Miss) Margaret B. Urmey, Chicago, Illinois.
