About five years ago I was in great distress and on the verge of a nervous breakdown. The doctor I visited was sympathetic and kind, but he was unable to help me. I was led to the home of a Christian Scientist. She lovingly guided me to a nearby Reading Room, where I borrowed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Also the librarian helped me to get in touch with a Christian Science practitioner.

From that day my life changed completely, although my healing was slow. My first reading of Science and Health seemed to give me scarcely any understanding of its meaning. However, after daily study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, faithful attention to all the writings of Mrs. Eddy, and consecrated work by practitioners, I came out of the darkness of nervousness and fear into the light of spiritual understanding. During this experience the following words from Science and Health were a great help to me (p. 574): "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares."

At that time I was instantaneously healed of chronic indigestion. I was also healed of the smoking habit, in which I had indulged for over thirty years. In a very difficult financial period our every need was met, sometimes from most unexpected quarters.
