"BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART"

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Elaine loved to attend the Christian Science Sunday School. Her parents were not Christian Scientists, but they helped her to be on time every Sunday.

One Sunday morning the teacher asked the children to draw their chairs closer to her so that their talking would not disturb the nearby classes. They were all obedient but Elaine. The teacher noticed this and, leaning over, gently patted Elaine's hand, telling her she was a very sweet little girl. Elaine then drew her chair closer and joined the circle.

The lesson that morning was on the Beatitudes. When the class came to the sixth beatitude (Matt. 5:8), "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God," the teacher told the story of Joseph to show how important it is to be pure in heart. The children learned that Joseph's brothers took his coat of many colors away from him; then they cast him into a pit, and afterwards sold him for twenty pieces of silver. Later on, when people were unkind to Joseph he continued to be loving. He never hated his brothers or tried to hurt them. The Bible says (Gen. 39: 21), "The Lord was with Joseph."
