LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

A statement quoted ... [in The Link] may leave the impression that Christian Science has something in common with medical psychology. Mrs. Eddy, however, referring in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," to the divine Mind, not the human mind, as the healing agent, says (p. 126): "I have demonstrated through Mind the effects of Truth on the health, longevity, and morals of men; and I have found nothing in ancient or in modern systems on which to found my own, except the teachings and demonstrations of our great Master and the lives of prophets and apostles. The Bible has been my only authority. I have had no other guide in 'the straight and narrow way' of Truth."

For one who according to the assertion "has degraded her own teachings," her book elucidating these teachings holds a remarkable record of continuous and expanding circulation. William Dana Orcutt, who is not a Christian Scientist, knew Mrs. Eddy over a period of eighteen years, when he printed her books, and is qualified to discuss in his own volume, "Mary Baker Eddy and Her Books," recently published, the world-wide, ever-increasing demand for Science and Health. He mentions that "today, forty years after the passing of its writer, without a single alteration in the text since that day" this book "is in greater demand than at any time during its seventy-five years of existence."
