In the spring of 1916 I was suffering from asthma, and our family moved to Colorado with the thought that there I would recover my health. Instead of getting better the condition grew worse; so I consulted a doctor, who said that I also had consumption and stomach trouble and that an operation was necessary. However, the operation was not performed.

In the fall of that year our children and I had grippe, and a woman who came into our home to help with the household duties told me of Christian Science and related some wonderful healings she knew of. Help from a Christian Science practitioner was requested, and about half an hour after the treatment I got up and prepared supper. I was healed of the grippe and stomach trouble. The practitioner urged me to read the Lesson-Sermon as given in the Christian Science Quarterly and referred me to what Mary Baker Eddy writes on the subject of consumption beginning on page 425 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Treatment was continued for five weeks; and during that time I attended the services of a Christian Science Society, and our children attended Sunday School. Acquaintances remarked on how well I looked. By the end of that period the consumption had been healed.

The asthma was slow in yielding. We moved to different parts of the country, and each time I had to take my stand to know that climate had nothing to do with the health of man. This statement of Mrs. Eddy's was most helpful (ibid., p. 392): "If you decide that climate or atmosphere is unhealthy, it will be so to you. Your decisions will master you, whichever direction they take." The healing finally came, and for over ten years I have been free from the asthma.
