Christian Science came into my life at a time of great need, some months after the passing on of a loved one, when I was left with three small boys to provide for and was full of grief and self-pity. I enrolled in a business school in a city some hundred miles distant, where I renewed my acquaintance with a girlhood friend who was a Christian Scientist.

It was through this friend that I attended my first service in a Church of Christ, Scientist, and became acquainted with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and also attended Christian Science lectures. The lessons I learned still remain with me. Through the help given me in Science by this friend a position was obtained in a small town, where I was able to maintain a home and have my boys with me.

There were no other Christian Scientists in the town. However, I read Science and Health, which had been lent me by my friend, and subscribed for and read the Sentinel. Although I encountered opposition to Christian Science, I did not give up my reading.
