CHRISTLY LIFTING UP

The healing, uplifting presence of the Christ is cherished by those who have felt its holy influence through the tender ministrations of Christian Science. It is reaching mankind through individual study of the Bible and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as well as through attendance at church services and lectures, the reading of authorized literature, and the consecrated work of practitioners. In all these spiritually actuated and directed activities the Christ, Truth, is operating now as it was in Jesus' time.

The thought that is filled with a sincere longing for Truth and the humble desire for spirituality readily discerns the Christ, which imparts the tenderness and compassion so necessary in the healing art. Today many spiritually-minded people are discerning through the study of Christian Science the presence of the Christ and proving through their healing work the truth of the Biblical prophecy (Job 22:29), "When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up." Such healing is accomplished only as thought is lifted to behold the Christ, God's spiritual idea, which reveals man as the perfect and immortal reflection of his creator, unfettered by materiality, immune from sin and disease.

The life of the Master abounds with instances of healing accomplished through his understanding and demonstration of the Christ as man's real nature. In confirmation of his divinely authorized mission to reveal Christ to humanity Jesus said (John 8:28), "When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things." These words of Jesus' explain simply and adequately his method of healing. He did not attach any element of human personality to Christ-healing. His words and works were inspired by his deep understanding of God and of spiritual man and by his impersonal love for humanity.
