Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 66), "Trials are proofs of God's care." I can gratefully say that I found this statement to be true in a recent healing of grief after the passing on of a loved one. The healing was not instantaneous, because there were many lessons to be learned.

One such lesson was that each healing we experience is an awakening of thought to spiritual reality and is entirely mental. I learned to search my thinking whenever inharmonious conditions arose; then when my thinking was purified the physical manifestation changed from discord to harmony.

Another lesson I had to learn was that man does not depend on a person for his happiness. This was pointed out to me very lovingly by a consecrated Christian Science practitioner. This practitioner told me that I must not keep busy materially merely in order to forget, but that I must see through each argument of error and annual it with an understanding of its falsity. This was done by studying Science and Health and other writings by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
