Many healings have taken place in our family through the application of Christian Science. The first healing we witnessed was that of my mother of gallstones after the doctor said an operation must be performed to save her life. This healing took place about twenty-five years ago, and she has been in perfect health ever since.

Some years ago a very irritating and painful condition appeared on the lower part of my back. I could barely sit and could not rest my back against a chair. At times the sensation was so intense that I thought I could not endure it. During this period I was engaged in a very important part of church work, which necessitated serving quite often and very late in the evenings. I also went to business during the day. The healing was not a quick one, but necessitated two or three months of continuous seeking of the truth. The practitioner drew my attention to the following sentence from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 571): "Know thyself, and God will supply the wisdom and the occasion for a victory over evil." The words "know thyself" were illumined, and for the first time in all the years that I had read them they really meant something to me. Through the help of the practitioner and my pondering of this sentence the condition soon disappeared.

About five years ago I was healed of a broken hip after a physician said it would be necessary to operate. I refused to believe all the dire predictions made at that time and again turned unreservedly to God, knowing all the while that "with men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible" (Mark 10:27). Also the statement from Science and Health (p. 231), "What God cannot do, man need not attempt," proved helpful. I was moved to the Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where the healing took place. For all the love and kindness expressed by the nurses and associates who serve at this Sanatorium, I wish to express thanks.
