I did not take up Christian Science...

I did not take up Christian Science for healing of physical aliments, but because friends of mine who were students of this Science seemed to me to have something that made them happier than I. From what they told me of this religion, it appealed to me. These friends were very helpful; there were no other Scientists in our town and no Christian Science church nearby.

Christian Science has been a preventive as well as a curative power in bringing up my large family. Constipation, neuralgia, varicose veins, colds, and cracked ribs are a few of the difficulties of which I have been healed with the help of faithful practitioners and the aforementioned friends.

It is a source of inspiration to me to be a member of The Mother Church and an active worker in the Cause. During World War II, my study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, reading of the literature, and attendance at Science lectures lifted my thought out of fear for my two sons and two sons-in-law, who were in the midst of the fighting. I am very grateful that they all returned home unharmed, and I feel that the truth that my daughters and I held to afforded them protection.
