Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Mount Vernon Daily Herald

Mount Vernon, Washington (First Church).

Members and friends of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Mount Vernon, joined in the dedication of their new church building at the corner of Sixth and Cedar Streets in two special services held Sunday, December 9.

The church history read at the dedication services stated that Christian Science services were first held at the home of a member in 1906. As the membership increased it was necessary to seek larger quarters from time to time. In 1922 the first church was erected on Snoqualmie Street. The church was incorporated after receiving recognition from The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, in 1918. In February, 1950, the membership voted to sell their property to the Salem Lutheran church. Both churches were benefited by this transaction, as both needed larger quarters.
