Christian Science came into my...
Christian Science came into my life at a time when much limitation and lack was being experienced, although I was earnestly groping and seeking for God. Through the work of a practitioner the need was beautifully and quickly met when I found employment in a field of work which proved to be interesting and educational; supply poured in, and living conditions improved. I shall never forget the peace and joy I experienced at my first service in a Church of Christ, Scientist, and I knew then that this at last was the church I wished to join. In due time the blessing of membership in a branch church and in The Mother Church was attained, with the priceless opportunity of serving in various activities, including the Sunday School.
There have been many healings experienced in our family through my application of Christian Science, sometimes with the help of a practitioner. These include healings of influenza, pneumonia, hay fever, hemorrhoids, constipation, a malignant tumor, smoking, and social drinking, and instantaneous healings of burns and cuts.
One healing in particular always stands out in my consciousness because of the great spiritual growth it brought. During a portion of World War II, I held a government position in an Army air base, which entailed much responsibility. Gradually this work dominated my thought, and church attendance fell off. Apathy, indifference, and suggestions of disloyalty to Christian Science presented themselves. My books were left unopened, and I did not study. Conditions became very inharmonious in my home, and I was filled with thoughts of resentment, weariness, and self-pity.
