CHURCH MEMBERSHIP

There are many students of Christian Science who are ready for branch church membership, but delay taking this important step. Were they aware, however, of the blessings in store, they would go forward without hesitation. Should they but consider how Principle maintains all righteous action, how Mind instructs, how Truth reveals what needs to be known, how divine Love broods tenderly over their way, and how Soul prepares the place before them, they might, as Paul did, "press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:14).

Every sincere student of Christian Science learns that yearning to worship God aright and to understand Him better is blessed of the Father. He finds too that seeking the presence of Love is active prayer. Such spiritual achievements exemplify a divine law stated in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" where the author, Mary Baker Eddy, gives the spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer, one line of which reads (p. 17): "And Love is reflected in love."

The more completely one's thought rests upon Love, the more heavenly is Love's bestowal. Our God, who ordained Christian Science, does not stir human consciousness to an interest in His law and later disregard its faithful observance. The spark of contemplation once lifted to revere Him is tended by mercy until it glows in His active service. Willingness to unite in church membership demonstrates our faith in the truth; it proves that we not only desire, but deserve, to receive the power and protection of God's law. Obedience incurs neither penalty nor privation. No limit is placed on the good to be derived from supporting and serving in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, for in so doing one is fulfilling the law of infinite Love.
