DEMONSTRATING THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAN

Much is being said and written about the brotherhood of man and the art of living peaceably together. It is a subject in which the student of Christian Science is especially interested and an art which he should be able to practice with ever-growing grace.

While ardently supporting and praying for harmonious political and economic relations between the peoples of the world, we would do well first to examine our own ability to work in harmony with our associates in church, business, and the home. It seems comparatively easy to extend our warmest sympathy and charity to our friends in other lands, but just how much of these qualities we have really been able to put into practice may be seen in our attitude toward those near us in our everyday experience.

To understand that the true individuality of each and every one is the reflection of God, divine Love, will enable us to recognize the divinely established unity of God's children and so help us to feel and express the love and generosity which this clearer understanding of the brotherhood of man must bring. Tolerance cannot be substituted for brotherhood. There is much truth in Emerson's statement, "Only that is real which men love and rejoice in; not what they tolerate, but what they choose."
