For over twenty years I have...
For over twenty years I have been receiving the blessings which Christian Science brings. I shall never forget the joy and happiness which I felt after reading a few chapters in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. As I continued reading, many physical ailments dropped away. My disposition changed, and problems that at one time weighed heavily on my mind passed into insignificance.
One physical healing which I experienced was that of a corn which appeared on the top of one of my toes. It was painful, but it did not occur to me at the time to use Christian Science. I resorted to material methods of my own, but the condition grew worse. Finally the time came when I could not handle it myself, so I went to a chiropodist and was told that the difficulty had developed into an ugly growth and that its removal would necessitate an operation. I remember thinking to myself that there would be no operation. Instead I called a Christian Science practitioner for help, and I also worked as best I knew how. I went home one afternoon feeling greatly uplifted spiritually, and that night, when I removed my shoe, I noticed the growth looked somewhat shriveled. There was no longer any soreness or pain, and the next morning the growth dropped off, and the toe was smooth and normal. I was grateful for this healing; for although it seemed a small thing, I knew that the same power which had healed this erroneous condition could heal anything.
I have learned through Christian Science that our lives become harmonious in proportion to our right thinking. When I have allowed my thought to become cluttered with resentment, selfishness, and other erroneous conditions, I have felt no security. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 19), "If living in disobedience to Him, we ought to feel no security, although God is good." As I have held to the truth and turned to God for help, I have felt the "peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7). I am grateful for our practitioners, who live so close to God that they are ever ready to help and heal. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and to Mrs. Eddy for giving us this wonderful truth, Christian Science.—(Mrs.) May W. McCartt, Tampa, Florida.
