For many years I have been...
For many years I have been blessed by the testimonies of healing reported in our periodicals, and I too want to express thanks to God for Christian Science through this channel. When this truth was presented to my father, he accepted it only as a last resort, hoping to find some relief from the painful rheumatism which had incapacitated him for nine months, and which doctors had been unable to cure. He was completely healed in Christian Science and took an active part in church work for many years.
My first healing was the instantaneous overcoming of a cold and sore throat, accomplished by my putting into practice the statement on page 392 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously. When the condition is present which you say induces disease, whether it be air, exercise, heredity, contagion, or accident, then perform your office as porter and shut out these unhealthy thoughts and fears." This healing made a great impression on me, for heretofore when so afflicted I sometimes had to be away from school or business for a week; but in this instance there was no interruption of my regular activities.
I had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School, and during this time ugly warts on my wrist disappeared completely while I was reading the textbook. Before taking up the study of Christian Science, I was subject to frequent nosebleeds and fainting spells. Although no specific work was done for these conditions, the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly freed me from such occurrences. I have also experienced protection in and from automobile accidents.
