FETTERLESS BEING
Deep in the heart of many lies the yearning for freedom from the manifold restrictions which seem an inevitable part of mortal existence. In the material realm as soon as one form of bondage has been surmounted, another often presents itself. And so it goes until human consciousness is forced to find the liberation which the Science of Christianity alone ensures. This Science reveals that all reality is God and His manifestation. It teaches the utter unreality of material fetters, of whatever description. Mary Baker Eddy states in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 227): "Slavery is not the legitimate state of man. God made man free."
Is not this a challenge to rise mentally in rebellion against lawless bondage and refuse any longer to be the victim of material sense, which is the only source of enslavement? Spiritual sense sets mankind free, because it is through this sense that one becomes cognizant of his innate freedom as the child of God, divine Love, and realizes the impossibility of the Mind which is Love binding its representative, man, with fetters of any sort. Love confers and perpetuates freedom; never does it afflict or restrict its own image and likeness.
Fetters are always of mortal making—of human origin, not divine. Spirit and freedom go hand in hand; likewise do matter and bondage. The divine Mind, man's eternal dwelling place, knows no restriction or confinement and sanctions none.
