I was raised in a very happy...

I was raised in a very happy Christian home and was taught to read and love the Bible from the time I was a very young child. Soon after my marriage I became very ill. The prayers of my parents and of the church did not help; so I was told it was God's will that I suffer. I had several operations and at last was told that the doctors could do no more for me. I was given but a year or two to live.

One day our little son told a friend that his mother was sick all the time. The friend said: "I have heard of a woman who heals by prayer. Why doesn't your mother go to see her?" Soon after this I did go and found that the woman was a Christian Science practitioner. This was the first time I had ever heard of this precious truth. I shall never forget that experience. I had to walk over a mile to get to her office. This was a great struggle, because I was so very weak. While the practitioner worked for me, she asked me to read the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation and "the scientific statement of being," both from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (pp. 16, 17 and p. 468). I read them over and over and thought I had never read anything so beautiful. When I left the practitioner, I felt as if I were walking on air.

I went home and told the family that I had found what I had been looking for all my life. The children were happy to take the large store of medicine and throw it away. They were enrolled in Sunday School, where they remained until they reached the age of twenty. This was many years ago, and now the second generation is having this blessed privilege.
