"BRING YE ALL THE TITHES INTO THE STOREHOUSE"

The much-loved Psalms of the Old Testament have come down to us through the centuries and stand as a perpetual reminder that the spiritually-minded of those days, in their recognition of God as the only cause and origin of all being, were rightly and inevitably moved to express their gratitude in praise and thanksgiving. "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. ... Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." So wrote the Psalmist (Ps. 100:1, 2, 4).

As Christian Scientists we are grateful that our beloved Leader. Mary Baker Eddy, designated and provided in the Manual of The Mother Church a specific order of service whereby we may in every Christian Science church gather together each year and in praise to God express our thanks for the blessings that have come to us through the revelation of Christian Science. Our Thanksgiving service, whenever planned, presents an opportunity to bring our tithes into the storehouse and to briefly give audible thanks for some specific healing or blessing that has been ours through the benefits of Christian Science. Responding to a request of the Boston Globe, Mrs. Eddy at one time prepared a statement which is as vital today as when she wrote it. It reads (The First Church of Christ. Scientist, and Miscellany, pp. 264. 265):

"New England's last Thanksgiving Day of this century signifies to the minds of men the Bible better understood and Truth and Love made more practical; the First Commandment of the Decalogue more imperative, and 'Love thy neighbor as thyself more possible and pleasurable.
