That Christian Science is a practical, demonstrable religion, I have proved for myself beyond any doubt over a period of many years. It has been my only physician, as well as my source of comfort. Many outstanding demonstrations have been made, sometimes with the help of a loving practitioner, at other times simply by my reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. One healing brought about by my reading the textbook was that of hernia. Many so-called children's diseases have been healed in one treatment. Heart attacks and an enlarged liver, from which one of my children suffered, were also healed. When there was urgent need for a home, this also was met by the realization that home is in spiritual consciousness.

I should like to tell of an experience I had which resulted in a beautiful proof of the quick healing power of Christian Science. I was returning home from church one Wednesday night on a city bus. When I reached my destination and started to step down from the bus, the heel of my shoe caught on something, and I fell to the sidewalk, twisting my ankle and spraining it badly. I tried hard to get up, but was unable to do so. The bus driver helped me up and wanted me to go to a hospital for a doctor's examination. This I refused to do. I could not get along without assistance; so two men helped me to get to my home, which was just across the street.

The ankle swelled very rapidly, the pain was quite severe, and I could not bear my weight on the foot. I became rather fearful. I managed to get to my room on the second floor, and I sat down to work in Christian Science. I got out of my thought all sense of fear, doubt, anxiety, resentment, and the thought of time. I suffered severely through the night, but held firmly to the truth. The next morning I was able to go downstairs with some assistance, and by the time a representative from the railway company arrived that afternoon, the swelling and pain were almost gone; and by the second day the healing was complete. The railway company representative was amazed at the rapidity with which this healing had been accomplished, and he remarked that he had had a similar occurrence and had experienced much difficulty.
