My mother became interested in...

My mother became interested in Christian Science through an aunt who came to visit us. I well remember the day my mother cleaned out the medicine cabinet. From then on, she took her stand for Science. When we were children, the nearest Christian Science church was a hundred miles from where we lived; so on Sundays our family read the Lesson-Sermons, as given in the Christian Science Quarterly, at home instead of going to another church and Sunday School.

About that time my younger brother had a rather aggravated case of eczema and was the subject of many pitying remarks from passers-by. However, he was completely healed in Christian Science, and there were no scars left on his face.

A few years later a gasoline lamp which was hanging from the ceiling of our dining room burst into flames when my father started to light it. While he was trying to beat out the flames, which were threatening to get out of control, my mother declared the truth, affirming aloud, "God is All-in-all: there is no fear;" and in a few minutes the fire went out.
