I am indeed grateful to our...
I am indeed grateful to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for her rich legacy to us, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." For over thirty years my husband and I have had the great privilege of using this key to the Scriptures. And through its teaching we have found the Bible alive, instructive, and healing. During the last ten years we have found the rich blessing promised in Malachi (3:10), "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." Christian Science has been our only physician, and it has given us a higher understanding of God and of His creation.
Last winter when we were motoring one day, we found the road very icy, and as we turned on a winding road the car skidded and overturned, going over an embankment. Both my husband and I declared the Lord's Prayer aloud. Then I realized that we could not be seen from the road; so I sounded the horn. In a short time a man came to our assistance, and he was able to get my husband out through the roof of the car. He then tried to pull me out, but I was wedged in, and my limbs had so swollen that I could not move. I asked to be left alone for a few minutes. I turned my thoughts to God, full of gratitude for His love and protecting care, and I suddenly found myself free. I was able to get out without help. Neither my husband nor I suffered any inconvenience from this experience.
Surely we have proved in this and many other experiences the truth of our Leader's words in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 149), "Remember, thou canst he brought into no condition, be it ever so severe, where Love has not been before thee and where its tender lesson is not awaiting thee."—(Mrs.) Florence Lacy Reid, Old Golwyn, North Wales.
