"Let the redeemed of the Lord...

"Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy" (Ps. 107:2). It has been many years since I first experienced this redemption, and I can no longer delay to "say so" in the way provided by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.

From childhood I had suffered from frequent attacks of tonsillitis and quinsy. Chronic laryngitis finally developed, and for two years I sought the help of throat specialists, but the condition failed to yield to medical treatment. In despair I turned to Christian Science, and in ten treatments I was permanently healed. I began an earnest study of this wonderful truth.

A short time after this healing, when spending a week end on a farm in a distant state, I was stricken with ptomaine poisoning and during the night had my first victory over illness through my own scant knowledge of Christian Science. At first I was panic-stricken, as I was on a concert tour and had an important engagement the following Monday night. To telegraph to a practitioner for help would have greatly inconvenienced my host, and the thought came, This is an opportunity to prove what I know about God, for God is here with me just as much as He is with the practitioner in Chicago. For hours I read the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, trying to apply to my case each statement of Truth. The Ninety-first Psalm was a great help, as was "the scientific statement of being." given on page 468 of Science and Health. I shall never forget the spiritual exaltation which came with the healing of all pain and illness by morning.
