WAITING ON THE LORD

The twenty-seventh Psalm contains much that is encouraging and instructional for the student of the Holy Scriptures.

Beginning with the assurance that in God are enlightenment, strength, and salvation, the Psalmist continues with the thought of His abiding goodness and tender mercy and of man's complete safety in the Father's allness. The song tells of a fearless trust in God, of a stanch and confident reliance on His protection and loving care; and it concludes with these heartening words: "Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord."

While pondering the beauty of this Psalm and the wholesome advice and definite pledge contained in this verse, the writer, gratefully acknowledging the practical benefit he had himself derived from it, was led to a consideration of the deeper meaning of that word wait.
