PLANTING A THOUGHT GARDEN

It was early in the spring. Mary had been given a plot of ground for a garden of her own. Her enthusiasm knew no bounds. Of course she could not help talking about it, and when Sunday came and she went to Sunday School she told the class about her plans. One of the little girls in the class who lived in an apartment sighed, "I wish I could have a garden."

Mary's thoughts were so centered on her garden that the teacher found it hard to interest the class in the lesson. So she asked the girls to close their eyes for a few seconds and to think of nothing but God. In those few seconds the teacher turned her own thought to God in earnest prayer for guidance, and a beautiful lesson unfolded to her.

When the children opened their eyes, the teacher surprised them by saying, "We can all have a garden, and we can start planting it right here in Sunday School." The children were asked to turn to Hymn No. 3 in the Christian Science Hymnal, and one child was requested to read aloud the words of the first verse:
