IN A CHRISTIAN SCIENCE READING ROOM

Isaiah 32:18

Within the shelter of this quiet spot
We lose the fears that made our pathway dark;
In the sweet silence of this friendly room
We rest in tranquil confidence and joy.
Before us are the books that point the way
To happiness and sure, abiding peace—
The Bible and the never-failing key
That opens up the treasured words of Truth.
No longer need we harbor grievous fear;
Turning to those impersonal counselors,
The torment and the troubled wondering cease.

Like an oasis in fear's desert land
These quiet resting places welcome us;
No fear so great, no sickness so acute,
No deep despair so hopeless and forlorn,
But we find healing comfort flood our hearts
As we turn to those words of living Truth—
The Master's words made real and plain today
By one who followed in his holy way.

Through deep discernment our dear Leader's thought
Visioned the healing peace that one might find
Within the holy stillness of this room,
This quiet spot, prepared to meet man's need.
