Signs of the Times

The Rt. Rev. W.M. Askwith in an article in the Daily Dispatch Manchester, Lancashire, England

When the first agents of the new movement which came into being as a result of the life and death and resurrection of Jesus Christ reached the town of Thessalonica in Greece, there was threat stir and alarm among some of the inhabitants. The messengers were dragged before the magistrates with the charge: "These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also." The movement appeared to l>e a revolutionary one and to threaten the whole order of society.

In an age in which the existence of Christian churches has come to be taken for granted, such a stir seems to be a little surprising. The claim that Christ makes today hardly appears to be so revolutionary as to justify all that excitement.
