GLORIFY GOD ON THE EARTH

One day when the writer was returning from her work, an elderly gentleman shared the seat on the bus with her. Almost at once he began to talk to her on a subject very dear to his heart—his three sons. These sons had evidently chosen professions much to their father's liking, and each one was making his father proud of him. The father was well pleased with his sons.

When the writer reached her destination and stepped from the bus, she found herself repeating the words Jesus had heard his heavenly Father speak at his baptism (Matt. 3:17), "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Then and there she was filled with a great desire and longing that she might glorify her heavenly Father and so merit the approval given to Jesus upon that occasion.

Many sincere students of the Scriptures cherish the same desire, but they are not certain just how Jesus won this approval of his Father. Yet in John's Gospel (8:29) we have the explanation in Jesus' own words: "I do always those things that please him." We can please God only by expressing His qualities, glorifying Him in our daily tasks and conversation. This Jesus did purposefully and continuously. When accused before Pilate, the Master very definitely stated that to bear witness to God, to glorify Him, was the sole purpose of his existence.
