I was an active member of an orthodox church for many years. My grandfather was a minister. I had many times, even when a child, pondered the verse from the Bible (Matt. 9:5), "Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?" and often wondered why there was so much preaching about healing sin, when suffering seemed to be something we all just had to endure.

I became ill, and for several years I was practically an invalid. Although I was able to go about most of the time, I was unable to do much work or to enjoy life as others did. For three months I was in a sanatorium, but came home no better than when I went. When I found Christian Science, I weighed ninety-two pounds. There was soon marked improvement, and within a short time I had gained twenty pounds. My friends began to inquire as to what I had been doing.

When this Science was presented to me, I immediately purchased the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I began reading at the beginning, and when I read the chapter on Prayer and the one on Atonement and Eucharist. I knew I had found the truth I had long been searching for. I lead these chapters over and over again, and to me they contained the most wonderful truths. This book was indeed a key to the Scriptures. It showed what true prayer really is, and how the Bible promises can be fulfilled and the blessings experienced.
