PROGRESS THROUGH THE MANUAL

In the revelation of Christian Science to Mary Baker Eddy and the subsequent call to found our movement there came from time to time Rules, inspired by divine Principle, obedience to which not only ensures the spiritual growth of the individual Christian Scientist but also protects him and the movement as a whole. These Rules she incorporated into a code of By-Laws known as the Manual of The Mother Church.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 495), Mrs. Eddy gives us the general rule of progress in Christian Science. In answer to the question, "How can I progress most rapidly in the understanding of Christian Science?" she writes as follows: "Study thoroughly the letter and imbibe the spirit. Adhere to the divine Principle of Christian Science and follow the behests of God, abiding steadfastly in wisdom, Truth, and Love."

We all desire to make progress. Mrs. Eddy tells us that to do so we must '"adhere to the divine Principle of Christian Science." As we seek to apply our understanding of God as Principle in our human experience, we find evidences of Principle operating not only as a vital force for good but as the only power.
