THE DAYSTAR OF SCIENCE

The peace that attends every demonstration of Christian Science confirms the Master's tender assurance to his followers (John 14:27), "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you." These words follow his promise of a Comforter, which the Father would send in his name, a Comforter which was to instruct men and remind them of all he had taught. Christian Science is that Comforter, and it is the daystar of peace that lights mankind's path out of the darkness and anxiety of mortal beliefs into spiritual freedom.

But the peace our Master gave brought no comfort to materialism. It rebuked the false peace of the corporeal senses and brought disquiet to material satisfaction, to sensual contentment, to idleness, diffidence, and spiritual ignorance. Christ Jesus knew that real peace can never be found in the mortal sense of being. "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword," he said (Matt. 10:34).

When Christian Science brings to light the actual presence of man in God's likeness, human thought is stirred to the depths, and iniquities come to the surface and pass away. This heals and redeems mankind, and a higher manifestation of manhood is established. The coming of Christian Science illumines the earth, increases mankind's intelligence, and exposes the falsities and the long-hidden, self-deceiving methods of evil. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 165): "The daystar of this appearing is the light of Christian Science—the Science which rends the veil of the flesh from top to bottom. The light of this revelation leaves nothing that is material; neither darkness, doubt, disease, nor death."
