After the birth of our second child, in 1927, I suffered from an abdominal disorder. Three specialists said an operation was inevitable. Although I did not know of Christian Science at the time, I could not decide to have the operation performed and so submitted to every possible kind of treatment, without any permanent benefit.

In the autumn of 1929 a relative from Lodz, Poland, was a visitor in our home town for several weeks. On the day she was leaving, I saw she had with her a Herald of Christian Science (German Edition). I questioned her about it, and she told me that one could be healed through Christian Science and that if I were interested, I could get further information and help.

Before I knew anything more about this teaching, I was thoroughly convinced that I had found my healing remedy and was happy and grateful that I need no longer consult a physician or submit to any more cures. My husband made me a present of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which I read that winter, and through this study alone I was healed of this unpleasant complaint.
