To anyone who may have long...
To anyone who may have long struggled for a physical healing I say in the words of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science (Science and Health, p. 573), "Take heart, dear sufferer, for this reality of being will surely appear sometime and in some way."
Over thirty years ago Christian Science was presented to me with the thought that it would heal me of eczema, from which I had suffered since a very small child and which the physicians had tried very earnestly to heal, but could not. A dear sister loaned me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health. After I had read the chapter entitled "Prayer," I was so impressed that the following day I returned the book, telling my sister, "Whether Christian Science heals me or not, this is the religion I want." Immediately I went to a Christian Science Reading Room and purchased a copy of my own.
The healing of eczema was not a quick one, but extended over a period of several years. During this time, however, I received many other healings—some instantaneous—which gave me courage to go on, and through consecrated study I learned valuable lessons regarding the qualities of patience, kindness, humility, tolerance, and endurance. Then the time came when I had to take a firm stand, as the condition appeared in a form more alarming than ever before, and some members of the family were becoming discouraged. One morning, on opening my Bible to study our weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. I found these words from Proverbs, which proved to be an answer to my prayer (4:20–22): "My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh."
