Mary Baker Eddy, the beloved...
Mary Baker Eddy, the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, tells us in Article XVII, Section 2, of the Manual of The Mother Church, "Gratitude and love should abide in every heart each day of all the years." With this thought in mind, I wish to express my gratitude for all the good that Christian Science is bringing to the world today and for all that it has done for me. I am grateful for the many provisions made by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in order to ensure the progress of the Christian Science movement. It is a privilege to be able to find sanctuary in the Reading Rooms, to get the inspiration of the authorized literature, to attend lectures, and to participate in the activities of a branch church.
My first healing occurred many years ago, when I was instantaneously healed of quinsy. Since early childhood I had suffered frequently from various throat ailments and had tried every material remedy suggested to me, but to no avail. Then a relative asked me if I would like Christian Science treatment. I consented, and a practitioner was called and the work lovingly taken up. One night I was unable to sleep and could hardly breathe. I cried out in the night, and my relative came into my room and read aloud to me from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I fell asleep, and when I awoke in the morning, I was completely healed. There was no period of convalescence. I felt wonderful. It was truly a complete reversal of error, and this was just a beginning. Since then I have had so many blessings from the study and application of Christian Science that I can, indeed, say with the Psalmist (Ps. 75:1), "Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare."—(Mrs.) Dorothy A. Silance, Los Angeles, California.
