THE SUNDAY SCHOOL—A FOUNDATIONAL TRUST

It is greatly important to keep before us the foundations of Christian Science. We must do so in order to build securely and well. Mary Baker Eddy writes (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 191), "Keep in mind the foundations of Christian Science—one God and one Christ." Christian Science acknowledges only one God, one supreme ruling good, one divine authority, and His manifestation is the Christ, or Truth, as demonstrated by Jesus, and this Christ is incorporeal and spiritual.

The master Christian laid foundations which are indestructible and eternal. His most effective method of presenting spiritual truths was through their demonstration or manifestation in the human mind and body, healing the sick and reforming the sinner. His authority for doing so was the Scriptures. Again and again he turned to the Word of God in order to confirm his statements. In our age Mrs. Eddy, a true follower of the Master, laid the foundations of Christian Science on God, as expressed in his words and works.

One of the most important foundational trusts Mrs. Eddy reveals to us is the necessity for educating children and young people in the spiritual and fundamental teachings of the Scriptures. She writes (ibid., p. 230), "It is a joy to know that they who are faithful over foundational trusts, such as the Christian education of the dear children, will reap the reward of rightness, rise in the scale of being, and realize at last their Master's promise, 'And they shall be all taught of God."
