"O GENTLE PRESENCE"

Peter is five years old and attends a Christian Science Sunday School. His mother used to leave him in the Sunday School nursery while she went to church, but now that he can sit quietly in his chair and listen to his teacher, he is a member of a regular class.

Every week Peter's teacher takes the roll at the beginning of class, and each child answers "present" when his name is called. Whenever a new pupil enters the class, Peter hopes his teacher will ask him to explain about this word present.

"It means," he says to the new student, "that you're here and ready to learn about God."
