MOTIVES AND ACTS

In the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy we find the inspired By-Law entitled "A Rule for Motives and Acts" (Art. VIII, Sect. 1). This By-Law was given by our great Leader to all member of The Mother Church, not only to read, but to love and daily obey.

The motives of the Master were to glorify God, to manifest the Christ, and to lift the wearied thought of humanity to an understanding of the power of Love. No self-seeking motive, no aim for vainglory, ever entered his consciousness; but unselfishness, love, and humility illumined his every purpose. His motives found expression in his glorious works.

Like the Master, the motives and aims of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, were to heal and to save and to glorify God. Her purpose was to follow Christ Jesus and to do the same works which he did. The desire of her heart was to lead mankind to the Christ, that each one might find his real selfhood and know himself as God knows him.
