MIND SUBDUES EVIL

The only thing that is absolutely certain is God and His creation. God—Mind, Life, Truth, and Love—is omnipresent, and His creation consists of His infinite ideas, man and the universe, which are perfect and eternal. When our consciousness is filled with the omnipresence and perfection of God, there is no room for disaster. It seems to appear only when we lose sight of the allness of God and the consequent inevitability of good.

During the last few years Occupation Forces in a foreign land have made great efforts to reduce the destruction caused by fire. Early in their study of this problem they found that the natives rarely made an attempt to put out a fire at the point of origin, but assuming that the original structure would have to be destroyed, they devoted their efforts to preventing the spread of fire over a wider area. They were shown that modern methods of fire fighting aim at destroying the fire at its source.

Similarly, we are taught in Christian Science to attack the belief in the inevitability of insecurity and danger at its source, namely, the belief in a power apart from God. A knowledge of God is the first essential in destroying this belief. Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has provided us with ways to learn of God, among which are all her writings, the church services, the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, and class instruction. She also ordained the Bible as one of our textbooks. In the measure that we put into practice the truths of God and man which we learn, the destruction of evil is hastened.
