I first heard of Christian Science during the winter of 1932–1933. I then began to read the articles and testimonies of healing in The Herald of Christian Science (French Edition). This reading brought about a great change in my thinking. In 1934, not feeling well, I consulted a surgeon, who stated that I had an internal trouble and that I should go to a hospital without delay for an operation.

Instead, I decided to call upon a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. I began seriously to study the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy contained in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Great relief was felt at once, and after three days' treatment I took a walk of several kilometers, although up to that time it had been impossible for me to walk and very painful for me to remain standing. It was, however, two years later, in 1936, when my healing was complete. It took place when my understanding became clearer and I grasped the import of Mrs. Eddy's words in Science and Health (pp. 391, 392), "Fear is the fountain of sickness, and you master fear and sin through divine Mind."

During this interval I was also healed of eczema which I had had on my hands periodically for twenty-two years. Although I had consulted the most eminent doctors and specialists, I had not been healed. Only my understanding that God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient freed me.
