In December, 1947, I was on a holiday in Tasmania, and in the early morning of the day I was due to leave Launceston for Sydney, I was seized with a violent pain in my right side. I wrestled with the problem until just after nine o'clock, when I could stand the pain no longer. My wife was with me, and we decided to send an urgent telegram to a Christian Science practitioner in Sydney, a distance of over seven hundred miles, requesting help. This was at 9.30 a.m.

The thought I held to was from the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation given in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 17): "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Enable us to know,—as in heaven, so on earth,—God is omnipotent, supreme." We were informed by the post office official that the telegram should reach Sydney within an hour. We were absolutely certain that the power of the Christ was capable of healing the case, and, I am pleased to say, we did not have the slightest fear. In a short time I fell into a peaceful sleep and awoke at 11.45 a.m. completely healed.

When I was sick, I was in no state to travel, but within an hour of being healed I caught a train for Devonport, in the evening of the same day a steamer to Melbourne, and, after a wait of a few hours, an airplane to Sydney. There was no convalescence, and the trouble has not returned. It was a wonderful proof to us that absent treatment is efficacious.
