Eleven years ago a burdened sense of frustration and despondency caused me to investigate Christian Science. Previously I had been very much opposed to what I supposed it to be. However, this opposition quickly disappeared as I realized that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." The healing of the depressed condition seemed slow and difficult, but with the help of a practitioner I eventually awakened to the wonderful fact that it was no longer a part of my consciousness and that I was free. Moreover, my whole mental outlook had altered. New opportunities arose in many directions, including employment of a far more satisfactory kind than human planning had achieved. Several false traits of character were also eliminated.

While I was working in the Far East, my study of Christian Science protected me from so-called inevitable tropical diseases. Popular assertions that a successful business and social career depended upon such habits as smoking and drinking were proved to be baseless and untrue.

Christian Science gave me constant protection whilst I was serving with the R.A.F. during the recent war. On a mission over the Aegean, our aircraft was forced to ditch into the sea not far from the Greek coast. This was accomplished without injuries, but later we were all taken prisoners of war. Although I possessed no books at the time, I was able to utilize many of the spiritual truths I had already learned, such as the need to love one's enemies, that is, to impersonalize evil by recognizing only the reality of God's perfect man.
