Christian Science Committees on Publication REPORT ON RELATIONS WITH THE CLERGY

[From annual reports]

Missouri

The preceding year's annual report contained the account of this Committee's address to the members of a Protestant church in a large city at a regular Sunday morning service upon the invitation of the pastor. In the year under review a former First Reader of a branch church in that city was invited by this same pastor to conduct a regular Christian Science service in this church on a Sunday morning. With the permission of The Christian Science Board of Directors, this service was given.

All arrangements necessary for the Christian Science service were lovingly made by the clerk and pastor of the church. The Second Reader who had served with the former First Reader read with him on this Sunday morning, and the soloist and organist for the service were also members of branch churches in this city. Mimeographed sheets were prepared by the Committee office containing the words of the hymns selected for the morning, the Lesson-Sermon subject, Golden Text, and Responsive Reading, as given in the Christian Science Quarterly. Musical selections with very familiar melodies were chosen, as a music score could not be made available for the congregation, and it was most inspiring to hear this congregation enthusiastically join this in the singing of "Abide with Me," "Rock of Ages," and "Joy to the World," with the words as given in the Christian Science Hymnal. The regular weekly program for the Sunday service which was distributed on this morning contained a note in regard to the service which stated that it was the "annual Christian Science service." At the conclusion of the service there were many expressions of appreciation to the Readers by the members of the congregation.
