The student's confidence is justified; Truth proved omnipotent

TRUTH'S CERTAINTY

The authenticity of the interpretation given by Christian Science of God's immutable laws harmoniously governing the universe, including man, is proved by countless healings of discordant conditions of every kind. Emancipation from bondage to material sense is as available today as it was when Christ Jesus prescribed his immortal and all-inclusive remedy for humanity's ills (John 8:31, 32), "If ye continue in my word, ... ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

That the Master himself was a thorough student of the Word of God as contained in the Old Testament is indicated by his numerous references to the Psalms and to the words of Moses, Abraham, Isaiah, and other prophets. Their receptivity to divine guidance and instruction would naturally be appreciated by one whose conscious unity with God—Life, Truth, and Love—enabled him to do mighty works in His name.

Likewise in our day Mary Baker Eddy, the author of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," was devoted to Scriptural research. As a young child she became acquainted with the voice of God when her receptive ear distinguished His call. She tells of this experience in the chapter entitled "Voices Not Our Own" in "Retrospection and Introspection" (pp. 8, 9). This spiritual perception and her entertainment of God's thoughts, or angels, fortified her with the certainty of divine presence and guidance. At a time of great extremity in her own human experience, when every material means had failed, she turned with triumphant hope to the Bible and found the Word of God illumined with spiritual light. She proved the certainty of Truth's healing power by rising from what had been pronounced her deathbed in fullness of strength and in more vigorous health than she had ever before enjoyed.
