Dispelling chaos and old night; establishing the divine cosmos

LIBERTY'S CRUSADE

Under the marginal heading "Liberty's crusade" in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 226), " The voice of God in behalf of the African slave was still echoing in our land, when the voice of the herald of this new crusade sounded the keynote of universal freedom, asking a fuller acknowledgment of the rights of man as a Son of God, demanding that the fetters of sin, sickness, and death be stricken from the human mind and that its freedom be won, not through human warfare, not with bayonet and blood, but through Christ's divine Science."

We are today on the threshold leading to true liberty and peace. The door to God-given freedom from enslaving beliefs stands fully open for all prepared to enter. "But," Paul aptly states (II Cor. 3:15), "even unto this day, ... the vail is upon their heart." Or we may say, "So-called material thinking obscures health, harmony, and ever-present peace." "Nevertheless," Paul continues, "when [humanity] shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away."

Students of Christian Science will profit by asking themselves, "Am I accepting the responsibility and privilege of lifting from my consciousness the veil of material thinking, the mesmeric belief of life and activity apart from God?" They can do this only as they understand and abide by the facts revealed in Christian Science that there are not two gods, because God is One, and there are not two minds, because God is Mind; that Spirit is All, and all is spiritual; that man's individuality is spiritual and eternal; that his relationship to his Maker is unchanging, and that God's law of good governs the infinitude of His creation.
