THE AFFLUENCE OF GOD

The word "affluence" means "a flowing to or toward; ... an abundant supply, as of thought, words, feelings." The affluence of God, in Christian Science, signifies an outpouring of spiritual blessings, an inexhaustible supply of good emanating from the illimitable and infinite Mind, God.

In order to enjoy God's affluence we must be obedient to His laws. We must also realize that God loves us and is pouring out His spiritual blessings in unrestrained measure.

John, the beloved disciple, recognized that God loved him. John had seen and felt the gentle healing touch of divine Love in many inspiring experiences. He must have watched Jesus heal the sick and realized that in the Master's compassion was to be seen the glory of infinite Love by which all things real are restored or created. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 54), "Out of the amplitude of his pure affection, he defined Love." John must have known by reason of an inward spiritual conviction as well as by his inspiring experiences that he was beloved of God. This understanding enabled him to say with conviction, "We love him, because he first loved us."
