THE LAW OF GOD

Throughout the Bible are many helpful references to God's law. For instance, in the Psalms we read (119:18, 34, 97): "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. ... Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. ... O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day." And Isaiah records God as saying (Isa. 51:4), "Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me."

This law of God which the Psalmist and Isaiah referred to is unalterable, inflexible, undeviating, eternal, spiritual, and perfect. This law has always been in existence and is always in operation. Law and order go together, producing harmony. Therefore everything in God's creation expresses law, order, and harmony, for harmony is based on law, while discord has neither Principle nor law to support it.

God is One and All. Included in this oneness and allness is man, God's idea, or reflection. It was Christ Jesus' understanding of God, the one Father and creator, and his obedience to God's law which enabled him to heal all manner of sickness and sin, to raise the dead, to walk on the sea, to still the tempest, and to provide loaves and fishes for the hungry multitudes. The people of that period, not understanding the operation of God's law, gave the name "miracles," meaning marvels, to all the wonderful works which Jesus accomplished, and for centuries Christendom so regarded them.
