GOD'S REPRESENTATIVE

"Immortal spiritual man alone represents the truth of creation." This statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 263) is one of several references made by its author, Mary Baker Eddy, to man as the representative of God. To convey to the human mind the true nature of man and his relation to God she also refers to man as manifestation, expression, reflection.

Man is not a medium for expressing God, but is His veritable manifestation. He represents Soul by reflecting the divine Ego, or infinite individuality; Mind by manifesting omniscient intelligence; Principle by obeying the immutable law of perfection; Life by evidencing harmonious and immortal existence; and Love by knowing the allness of God, good. This is not a former status of the real man, nor his future destiny. John declared, referring to our true self (I John 3:2), "Now are we the sons of God." In the present and eternal now man represents and expresses God.

The significance of the term "representative" as applied to spiritual man lies in what it conveys to human thought. Familiar examples of human activity may help us to a better understanding of what man is as the representative of God and the glory that belongs to his spiritual entity as that representative.
