A search for living quarters bears fruit when it is realized that man's spiritual home is God-furnished and always occupied

"ENLARGE THE PLACE OF THY TENT"

During a six months' search for a place in which to live, a student of Christian Science found that she had many lessons to learn about the true nature of home. Her home had been a place of high ideals, harmonious living, congenial companionship, and open hospitality. Then came a day, her dear companion gone, her house sold, when she needed new quarters, a new mode of living, and a new concept of home.

Turning for comfort and guidance to God, revealed in Christian Science as Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love, she proved again Mary Baker Eddy's statement that "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 454). In the course of her earnest study and prayer a verse from the Bible and a statement from Science and Health became waymarks to her. They were (Isa. 54:2), "Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;" and (Science and Health, p. 430), "Faith should enlarge its borders and strengthen its base by resting upon Spirit instead of matter." Like a flash of light she saw that she must enlarge her concept of home by spiritualizing it.

This student recognized that her concept of home had been resting on an unsure basis, part matter, part Spirit. It had been identified in her thinking too closely with that material objectification which represents home, but is not home. Now she saw the necessity of recognizing it as a purely spiritual idea, a dwelling place in Mind, a structure of divine qualities perpetually expressed. She admitted that her former concept of home, though humanly good, had been self-centered and family-centered. Now it should become God-centered, embracing all impartially in its affection and compassion. Enlarged spiritual understanding must precede unfoldment.
