TRUE COMPASSION

Not sympathy
that sees the beggar at the gate
and pityingly
decries the harshness of his fate,
"Poor fellow!
Here's a coin will ease his lot"—
and leaves him still
a crippled beggar in the road.

Not this. But love
that lives so simply, near to God,
it dares to move
against the sin that would shape a God
of Truth's own child.

Such love perceives the perfect man,
whole, undefiled,
and wakes the dreamer to the Father's plan.
It leads him into heaven's abode
to walk, and leap, and praise his God!
